Used explores the notion of cars as people and therefore cars as having emotions. Whether it is a once beautiful showroom classic, whose beauty is now faded like an aging starlet or a solid reliable workhorse left to rust after years of dedicated service, this exhibition centres around the idea that people ,and cars, ‘have their day’ and time wearies everyone and everything.

It is a sometimes melancholy view of life and runs parallel to the human belief that although things once treasured can be forgotten or left behind, the hint of past valour or beauty is still evident, and how something once prized, then forgotten, can become a classic again, time permitting.

Distorted perspectives and faded backgrounds have been painted to emphasise the draining of time and the passing of the golden days. The gloss finish illustrates the industrial nature of the scenes, the transition to the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ and the once ‘shiny’ days past.

The series is acrylic on canvas with estapol finish.
